Stumble Upon Of The Day
Ok so this video came up whilst I was browsing Stumble Upon earlier. Watch it. Hilarity ensues.
Long time no blog
Apologies for my absence, I have been in what I like to refer to as a work coma whereby my life has consisted of working as a checkout slave in a supermarket by day (all day every day) and attempting minimal hours of sleep by night. Social life at present is non existent, and I am fueled only by the idea of making money.
Today, however, is my first day off since I can't even remember when and I have spent it well - doing nothing. Some may say that I have wasted my day, sleeping in, lounging around, but I'd like to think that doing nothing is overrated. It's not often recently that I get the chance to relax, nap on the sofa, nap in the garden, nap pretty much anywhere that doesn't require much effort getting to in my house. Today's been pretty sweet.
In other news, tomorrow marks the 6 weeks count down to me leaving the UK to spend a semester abroad in Canada! That's 4 months at Brock University, St. Catharines, Niagara, Ontario and to be completely honest I'm so freaking excited... and scared shitless at the same time. At least I'll have something interesting to blog about from September onward other than my life now working at Sainsburys.
Got some good things to look forward to this summer including a uni reunion in London which we should have organised by tonight/tomorrow hopefully, sorry this post has been brief, as you can tell I'm mega busy :p

Perspective and other such words
Warning: This blog contains one big old jolly rant.
One word that I seem to be thinking a lot about lately is perspective, or rather, people’s lack of it. I mean, when you take a step back and look at the world, its amazing to see that most of the things that you think matter, really don’t rank in the scheme of things.
What I can’t stand that people who hold grudges, its completely pointless, doesn’t get you anywhere and the person who you are holding it against probably doesn’t give a shit anymore. The irony is you’ll probably forget why you dislike this person in the first place. PERSPECTIVE
So what if you you don’t get what you want all the time? No one cares, get over it. The time you spend stewing over what you haven’t got could be far better spent embracing the things that you already have. Yeah disappointment hurts, but (hopefully) it won’t last long and sometimes things have to fall apart to make way for better things … (that’s right, i just slid in a quote from How I Met Your Mother)
You may think i’m cynical but I guess all i’m trying to say is life goes on. If you think about how much time we actually have on this earth, you don’t want to miss out on anything when you’re too busy looking behind you. Take risks but be safe (no pun intended) and don’t be afraid to say ‘yes’ when a crazy idea comes your way. You will know you’ve had a good life when you’re 80 and can look back on memories with fondness and not regret.
Have a good one x
Internet Discoveries
- It is not uncommon when browsing the internet to have you path crossed by the weird and wonderful. Recently I found myself straying away from the usual favorites of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc and stumbling upon a site that features ‘Top 10…’ lists. For example ‘Top 10 Movie Cliches’, ‘Top 10 Things You Didn’t Know Were German’ and even stranger ‘Top 10 Truly Extreme Noses’ - (not kidding)
- Being a university student at this time, there was one particular post that caught my interest that I am going to share with you now.So, introducing….Top 10 Bizarre University CoursesAt number 10: The Theology of Eating This course was found at Loyola College. It takes one of the most basic parts of human life and completely dissects and analyses it. I’m pretty sure the only thing of any importance is that you need to eat to stay alive - A* for me.9: The Art of Walking Once again, this course doesn’t seem to have any place in this world. Walking… surely that’s just putting one foot in front of the other.8: The Art of Sin and the Sin of Art The course description for this came with a warning about what punishments students may face for their sins for any controversial artwork they may create in the future. Learning in fear.7: The Joy of Garbage Not even joking. It is actually called The Joy of Garbage. Students are required to research and determine the differences between ‘garbage’, ‘discard’ and ‘waste’ … ok, who would take this course and why?!
6: The Unbearable Whiteness of Barbie Yeah, thats right. Barbie. This course is mandatory for some students at Occidental College and tries to explore ways in which scientific racism has been put to use in the making of Barbie. Definitely something of great value that one can use in ones future… NAHHHTT5: Stupidity A course teaching about Stupidity - I like the irony :)4: Philosophy of Star Trek If you ever wanted to understand the philosophical depths of Star Trek this is the course for you! Prerequisites include 1) Severe lack of any social life 2) A yearning ambition to be forever going nowhere.3: Zombies I actually find this analogy quite interesting. Credit for this must go to Sean Hoade, professor of English at University of Alabama who found comparabilities between American consumption patterns and Zombies.Sean Hoade- “zombies act as a mirror for Americans, not only as we see ourselves but also as the rest of the world sees America in the time of George W. Bush: as a roaming, voracious killer turning its victims into soulless creatures like itself”
- makes sense to me
2: Maple Syrup: The Real Thing This made me laugh. It is literally a course in studying the production of maple syrup. Nothing else to it really. The best bit about this is that Alfred University in Western New York State listed“willingness to work for long periods in snow, cold and mud” as one of the prerequisites!
So here we finally are, 1: Knitting for Noobs It’s in the title really. A university degree for knitting. Can’t get much simpler than that. Over £3000 a year… to knit. Certainly a worthy winner of the Top 10 Bizarre University Courses for its audacity and completely pointless existence.
Worst thing is, probably all these courses will consist of more lecture hours than the one I’m doing….

Homeward Bound
Having now left Keele for the Easter break, I now write to you from my hometown in Chelmsford, Essex. So scary to think how quickly these past few weeks have gone and that I’m am now nearing the end of my first year at university… ok premature midlife crisis over.
My last few days at Keele were really impressively uninteresting. With everyone else in my block having already gone home, I planned to spend the time I had getting ahead on my assignments, but I rarely achieved getting up before 1pm. I dragged out my days going for walks (well,I went for one walk) and watching old disney animations (The Little Mermaid, Snow White, Song of the South (half-animated)) - it’s amazing how little I remember from when I was younger.
Ok looking back, I understand that it perhaps wasn’t the most productive weekend I’ve ever had.
So I was pleased to be back down south where don’t people criticise me for the way I pronounce some words -bath, path, grass etc - where I don’t get called an ‘Essex Slag’ at every opportunity by a 19 year Manchunian Medical student (not saying any names) and where the combination of curry and chips still baffles people.
Most beautiful sunny day today too, really hope the weather lasts for mega catch up with the best mate tomorrow at nandos - hello my name is Sophie, it’s been 6 months since my last nandos - god I miss that place.
Not a lot left to say really, excited to be heading back up north this weekend and then seeing my friends when they return from university next week.
If anything mildly interesting happens, I’ll let you know.
Bugden, out

Introductions
Like I said. Two words: Music Student
These two words instantly mean that I spend an extremely large amount of my time doing… well, nothing. Unlike Med students or Maths students, Business Management students, even Geography students, we musicians can find ourselves somewhat under-worked… ergo: BLOG
Aside from the drinking, partying and socialising that comes with a typical university life there are times where I feel something productive needs to be done during days with no lectures or schedules (so most days). In other words this blog is to keep me from boredom and to make time seem less of a drag. Procrastination, if you will.
Most things I say will probably be completely irrelevant to anyone reading, am only hoping to create a small (and hopefully amusing) insight to who I am and what I do. Feel free to ask any questions, I'll welcome any interactions from you guys! For anything else see my facebook or twitter. So put the kettle on, make a nice brew and look out for my posts. I’ll leave you tonight with the words of one of my heroes:
Brandon Flowers “I’ve got soul, but I’m not a soldier”
Speak Soon. Sophie Bugden.
